Flieger, grüß' mir die Sonne, grüß' mir die Sterne und grüß' mir den Mond. Dein Leben, das ist ein Schweben, durch die Ferne, die keiner bewohnt! - Hans Albers, F.P.1 antwortet nicht (Adaptation in the 80s: Extrabreit)

To bring things over

Sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the story
of that man skilled in all ways of contending,
the wanderer, harried for years on end,
after he plundered the stronghold
on the proud height of Troy.

I have traveled trade routes and seen the specks of men under the vast sky, the colonies of metal mining and refinery at this cluster´s brim, dotted with their precious chambers of corns and ponds of fish, and enjoyed the toys which industry and high tech worlds would offer. It was not much. But it earned me quite some cash.

- to bodly go where no one has gone before...

Everything still can change. The railgun, this alpha beast, has become a beta placeholder. Alphastrike, this initial burst damage which is so determining the first wave of battle, they whisper in feeds, is snuck upon by cannons and missiles, those ancient harriers of war. Vipers rot together in increasing numbers, bored and hunger´d by lack of prey, and Anacondas´ a muscular form are seen more and more. The hissing and moaning of the collective souls swells, as it always does since newness and wonder slowly and steadily dull away under the harsh gaze of mastery and the whip of routine. Innocents get slaughtered, hapless space cities beleagured, the just cry out. They hunger for more; the decline of beta is nigh.

These past fortnight, every spaceship the Frontier assembled so far I have piloted, every weapon system tested upon a pile of vouchers. In but a lone Eagle, I circle now between ancient constellations, looking out for things to come.

My goals for this beta game have been completed. I can use now the remaining carcass of the beta to squeeze some mindless combat out of it, feel its flow and succumb to it, and, as a reminder of my initial vision, I can look out for more epic moments and test mechanics which would probably survive into the final game. Without being a fully fleshed out play vision or strategy, I come up with the following possibly still interesting "to do"s;

- improve maneuvering skill
- test and find optimal weapon type combinations, according to different PvE/PvP combat situations, and train switching fire groups during combat and weapon capacitor management
- explore stealth tactics in PvP
- access teamplay and formation battle in combat, enter "social" game aspects

However, as always, the golden rule of games applies; sponaneity and fun of the moment will overrule everything.
